His full name is Thomas Lee Bass and he was born in Athens, Greece to an American father and a Greek mother. He has a sister named "Athens" who is also a drummer. When he was a year old the family moved to the US. 2. He first held the sticks when he was four but bought the first drum set only when he was ten. 3. He decided to drop out of high school to start a musical career and his first band was "Suite 19". They started performing a lot in clubs in Los Angeles alongside bands like "Van Halen" and "Quiet Riot". 4. At that time bassist Nikki Sixx had a band called London that also performed in the same clubs and through that, a connection was formed between the two. 5. In 1981 Nicki's band disbanded and he joined Tommy to form a new band. They added guitarist Mick Mars, and singer Vince Neil and together they formed the band Mötley Crüe. (Photo: https://pt.fanpop.com) 6. In 1981 the band released their debut album "Too Fast for Love" under their own independent label called Leathür Records. The band began to gain momentum and build a fan base when immediately after the release of the album it was signed by Elektra Records. 7. They released nine albums by 2008, and all of their albums reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 with the album "Dr. Feelgood" from 1989 being the only album to take first place. 9. Especially in the glam metal era, Motley was one of the standout bands using every possible pyrotechnics and special effects on and off stage. (Photo: Ebet Roberts) 10. Tommy used to place his drum set on a huge platform that used to go up in the air and perform rounds while playing and also hover over the crowd by a formidable crane. 11. It's hard to describe in non - pornographic words all that happened around the band on and off stage and we will not try either, but let's say that drugs, sex, and rock n' roll were in the DNA of all the band members, without limits, without bounderies, going nonstop. Just look for the movie "The Dirt". 12. In the early 1990s, when glam metal faded and was trampled by grunge and alternative, the band experienced a severe downfall. The singer Vince decides to leave and the album that comes out in 1994 and bears the band name does succeed in the charts but fails commercially. After the tour to promote the album in 1999, Tommy also decides to leave the band and start a solo career. 13. After the release Tommy decided to put his abilities and talents to the test, closed himself in the studio, and started recording his debut solo album "Never a Dull Moment". The entire album was written by Tommy with the help of producer Scott Humphrey and also help from members of our favorite band "Incubus". 16. The first single from the album was "Hold Me Down" which had a music video that had regular reruns on MTV2. 17. In 2004 Tommy returns to "Motley Crue" and after an exciting reunion performance, the historic band releases another album four years later called "Saints of Los Angeles". 18. That same year he stars in an NBC reality show called "Tommy Lee Goes to College" which he tries to integrate as a student at the University of Nebraska. 19. In 2006, Tommy and Jason Newsted (Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) formed a band called "Rock Star Supernova" based on CBS "Rock Star" reality show. On the show, winner Lukas Rossi was chosen to be the band's singer. They released a single album that year bearing the band's name. 22. It is impossible not to mention the hot sex tape with then-wife Pamela Anderson that was the breakthrough of viral pornography on the internet. Tommy said a porn actor who worked at his home stole the tape and distributed it. 23. Tommy has collaborated with various and diverse artists like: Rob Zombie, Fall Out Boy, Foreign Beggars, Courtney Love , The Smashing Pumpkins, and many more in the role of drummer or DJ. 24. - Queen - "We Are The Champions" Is Catchiest Song Ever
What is the catchiest song in the world? The one that gets stuck in your head more than any other song? Well, today in 2011 a group of scientists published a study according to which the song " We Are The Champions " by "Queen", from their album " News of the World " is the catchiest song ever created. For the study, scientists from Goldsmith University asked 1,100 volunteers to sing several songs from a pre-selected song list. The scientists rated the songs that were the easiest to sing for the same research group, based on several criteria, and concluded that "We Are The Champions" is the catchiest song ever. The contenders for the crown were the songs: Y.M.C.A of "The Villagers", " The Final Countdown " of "Europe" and "Fat Lip" of "Sum 41". - Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Editor's Choice... And this time... "Lightning to the Nations", the debut album of "Diamond Head" which was released on October 3, 1980. How does an album that was recorded, produced, and distributed with self-funding and without any help from the record companies, an album whose cover was white and did not include a title or even the band's name or list of songs, become such an influential album, a "classic"? All this in the following review: So for those unfamiliar, "Diamond Head" is one of the bands that influenced the thrash metal genre, especially bands like "Metallica" and "Megadeth". "Diamond Head" was founded in 1976 in the town of "Stourbridge" in England, by two high school students, leading guitarist Brian Tatler and drummer Duncan Scott. The two joined singer and rhythm guitarist Sean Harris and bassist Colin Kimberley and began performing in local pubs. In 1979, the band managed to record a self-funded demo tape. The tape was sent to several record companies, but the band did not manage to sign a recording contract. Instead, they managed to attract the attention of a loyal audience that accompanied it, as it warmed up bands like "AC/DC" and "Iron Maiden". In 1980, the band released their first single " Shoot Out the Lights ", which was also self-funded, after no record company offered them a recording contract. It should be understood that at that time punk dominated the UK and record companies were not yet happy to sign new heavy metal bands, but that soon changed with the blossoming of the "New wave of British heavy metal". It is interesting to note, that the second side to the same single was " Helpless ", which 7 years later will receive a cover version of "Metallica" on the album " The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited ". Watch "Diamond Head" perform the song in a rare recording from 1979: Unfortunately, even the first single released did not help the band get a proper contract. But they didn't give up down and decided to record and produce their first album themselves. The person who helped finance the recordings at the time was Sean Harris' mother, Linda. Knowing the potential the band had, she believed that recording the self-funded album would make it easier for the band to get a contract with a major record company. The album was released on October 3, 1980. It came out in a smooth white cover with the signatures of the four band members on it. No caption of the band name, no title, no songs list to help identify "what's inside the jar". This was because the band director Reg Fellows owned a ticket factory and could produce the cover at a very low price. Initially, only 1,000 copies were produced and sold during the band's performances. In the absence of any title to the album, some fans called it "The White Album" and some others simply gave it the name of the first song from it - "Lightning to the Nations" and that's how the album actually got its name. This album became a heavy metal classic as he rode the wave of "New wave of British heavy metal" and the new bands that followed. Although in real time the band failed to break out commercially as did their colleagues, including "Iron Maiden", the album became critically acclaimed, including that of Geoff Barton of "Sounds" magazine who hailed the album by noting that only one "Diamond Head" song has more fine riffs than the entire "Black Sabbath" first album. Not only that critics praised the album, but it became a cult album, especially among the artists themselves, led by "Metallica" who performed no less than five songs out of the 10 songs on the album, and even recorded a large part of them: " The Prince ", " Sucking My Love ", " Am I Evil ? ", " It's Electric " and " Helpless ", so it undoubtedly influenced Metallica's sound and style. The album featured classics of heavy metal and immortal riffs, from the melodic riffs of the theme song, through the galloping rhythm that "Iron Maiden" would embrace and perfect, from " The Prince " to the 10-minute epic " Sucking My Love ", "Diamond Head" simply created an impactful history here with the revival of an entire genre. But the highlight of the album is undoubtedly " Am I Evil? ", Whos simply surpassed all others. An immortal and mesmerizing work that did not age a bit, so it is clear why it became a "Metallica" hit. Come and watch "Diamond Head" perform it here: Interesting to note that over the years, the band released a significant number of B-sides, so this album's reissues include 14 tracks and not 10 that were in the original release. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the album, the band released an updated version of the album in which the songs were re-recorded with the band's new lineup. In addition, several cover versions were recorded for songs by "Led Zeppelin", "Deep Purple" and "Judas Priest", as well as for Metallica's "No Remorse", as a kind of gesture for the covers they made for "Diamond Head" songs. - Bon Jovi - Hayarkon Park - 3/10/2015
On October 3, 2015, "Bon Jovi" appeared, for the first time, on the "Hayarkon Park" stage, and in front of 50,000 delighted spectators gave us a historic and unforgettable performance. So it's true, we got the band way past its prime. True, Richie Sambora was missing and even two talented guitarists like Phil X and Matt O'Ree, could not fill his big shoes. True, the setlist included quite a few new and lesser known songs, at the expense of hits like " Always " and " Bed Of Roses ". And most of all, it's true, Jon Bon Jovi 's voice betrayed him more than once and he sometimes sounds like an unsuccessful imitation version of himself. But if we leave the cynicism aside for a moment and see the glass half full, then on October 3, 2015 we witnessed an amazing and historic performance by one of the biggest rock bands in the world, who came to Israel to give the best show they can deliver under the circumstances, and no less than that, they came to support Israel and the Israeli audience in a difficult time, and even dedicated a song to them! This was the band's last performance on the tour called "Bon Jovi Live!" - the band's first tour without Richie Sambora , which was intended to promote the band's 13th studio album "Burning Bridges". All demands and appeals to the band not to perform in Israel, including from one - Roger Waters, were not met, and at exactly 20:45 the band went on stage to the sound of Tico Torres' thundering drums, who also gave the signal for the beginning of the song " That's What the Water Made Me ", taken from the album "What About Now" from 2013. There is no doubt that this is a somewhat strange, but brave choice to open a show of this magnitude, especially when it comes to the band's first show in Israel. But the Israeli audience who longed to see their heroes was not really interested, as could be understood from the applause and hysterical screams that the band received, from the very first seconds of the show. As soon as the opening song ends, Jon Bon Jovi turns to the crowd and asks them “Good evening Tel Aviv, Israel! Are you ready for rock ‘n roll? I’ve waited a long time for this, baby! ... Show me what you're made of..." and the crowd really showed him what they made of with applause, cheers and roars to the first sounds of " You Give Love A Bad Name ". That's it, we could declare... the show has now began... From there on the setlist took us back and forth in time, throughout the band's illustrious career. After " Raise Your Hands ", also taken from the album from the masterpiece " Slippery When Wet " Jon Bon Jovi 's "Time Tunnel" counts down the time and takes us back, how far back? As far back as possible to the debut album " Bon Jovi " from 1983. Jon tells us how it all started, how he did not give up despite all the rejections and negative answers he received, how he gathered courage and in 1982 arrived at WAPP 103.5 FM "The Apple" radio station from New Jersey with the demo for the song " Runaway " and from there everything is really a history... Then we get a sequence of relatively new songs - " We Got It Goin' On " from the album "Lost Highway", followed by " We Weren't Born to Follow " - the first single from the album "The Circle", returning to the theme song " Lost Highway " And another song from the album " Whole Lot of Leavin' ". And then comes one of the most exciting moments in the show. Jon Bon Jovi dedicates the song " We Don't Run " to the Israeli croud and says: "This should be the fight song for Tel Aviv". And we're really not running away, we're here to stay!!! Shortly before the concert there was an attack in Jerusalem, when a Palestinian stabbed two Israelis to death in the Old City and wounded two more, so suddenly these warm words of Jon Bon Jovi take on a different meaning... Jon turns to the band and the audience and says "Turn up the volume... here's part 2..." and here we witness one of the highlights of the performance with the song " It's My Life ". The guitarist Phil X makes use of the famous "talk box" effect, it is not clear how this epic song would have sounded without it, and the longing for Richie Sambora who ingeniously had the idea of using, is only getting stronger. Right after it, comes " Because We Can " and Jon tries to get the crowd to sing with him, but apparently the park is mostly full of 70's and 80's people who didn't really know the song. We have to say it wasn't one of Jon's better performances, which unfortunately was a bit "off tune", but who cares? The nostalgic burst we experienced simply overshadows everything.. This dance of the band and the audience, back and forth in time, continued with an acoustic rendition of " Someday I'll Be Saturday Night " which immediately followed by the legendary " Wanted Dead Or Alive ", with a tremendous solo by Phil X, who happily chose to stick to the original rather than improvise. Just Before the song " I'll Sleep When I'm Dead " (which we call the Polish anthem (-:)) Jon introduces the Jewish keyboardist David Bryan and says "your father would be proud of you for finally coming to Israel!". After a particularly long and energetic performance that includes several solos in " Keep the Faith " the band performs " Bad Medicine " and gets off the stage to the applause of the audience that refuses to let them go, certainly not after 30 years of anticipation... Indeed, the band responds and returns for a long set of encores that includes no less than five songs! Among them are " In These Arms " which continues to melt us twenty years after its release, the bouncy " Born To Be My Baby " and of course " Living On A Prayer ", with which the band chooses to end this amazing evening. Interestingly, during one of the interviews conducted with him before the show, Jon Bon Jovi stated "I have been everywhere and Israel was a place that I’ve always wanted to visit, but it never worked out. This time I insisted that Israel must be on our list and it happened!" It is not impossible that because of this he chose to end the performance with a promise: "I’ll come here any time you want". Yes Jon, even though you're past your prime, even though you don't always hit the right notes we want you here again, and again... - Aerosmith Bailes Out Fans After Pot Arest
Recently, we use the phrase "mutual responsibility" occasionally. On October 3, 1978 "Aerosmith" proved to their fans what true "mutual responsibility" is, when they bailed 30 of them out of jail, after they were arrested during the band's performance at the "Fort Wayne Coliseum" in Indiana, just for smoking marijuana. (Photo: Wordpress) The mass arrest occurred at a concert held by "Aerosmith" on October 3, 1978 at the "Coliseum" in Forth Wayne, Indiana, in front of an audience of 10,000 people. The performance was held as part of the concert tour designed to promote the excellent live album "Live Bootleg!". In the middle of the performance, police entered the concert hall and dragged away 70 boys who were suspected of smoking joints and drinking alcohol, under the legal age. Among those arrested was the band's designer and dresser. Steven Tyler , cursed the policemen from above the stage through the amplification system. After finishing the show as planned, "Aerosmith" offered all of their arrested fans bail, at their own expense. Of all the fans arrested that night, 28 accepted the band's offer and were released on bail totaling $3,650. - Iron Maiden - The X Factor
On October 2, 1995, "The X Factor", Iron Maiden's tenth studio album, was released. This is a controversial album among "Iron Maiden" fans, some of whom had a hard time accepting the new singer Blaze Bayley and were not open to changing of style the band went through. If you are one of those fans or you just skipped "The X Factor", we are here to convince you that this is a great album that is really worth listening to. The story of this album begins with the end of the tour that accompanied the album " Fear Of The Dark ", when singer Bruce Dickinson left the band. Bruce felt he had exhausted himself as part of the band, he said he felt trapped inside a golden cage. He added that the easiest option for him was to continue to recycle himself within the band, with the second option being to step out of the comfort zone of "Iron Maiden" and try to find his way as a solo singer, maybe even reinvent himself. When he informed the band members that he was leaving, he had no plans for the future, he just knew he did not want to continue doing the same, so his friends had even more difficult understanding his decision. After a break following the dramatic announcement of Bruce Dickinson , the band members decided that breaking the band up is not an option and that they were interested in moving on. At the same time, it was clear to everyone that this was not going to be an easy task to replace one of the greatest singers in metal and that it would be very difficult to find someone who could get into his shoes. They began auditioning for a singer to replace Bruce in 1994 and listened to hundreds of tapes and demos, from which 12 finalists were chosen to audition in front of them. One of those singers was Blaze Bayley from the band "Wolfsbane", which was their opening act in the early 1990s. As is well known, Blaze was eventually chosen to be the frontman that would replace Bruce, and bassist Steve Harris justified the band's decision by saying they were looking for something different from Bruce. When Blaze came into the band, they had not yet written a single note for the album, so he was a full partner in the making, although in practice he participated in writing only three songs from the album, including one of the greatest and most successful songs from it - " Man on the Edge ". The lyrics were written by Blaze inspired by the movie "Falling Down" starring Michael Douglas, and indeed the lyrics are repeated in the chorus. It is interesting to note that this is the only song on the album that bassist Steve Harris was not involved in writing at all and therefore it is quite surprising that Janick Gers and Blaze Bayley managed to score a hit in the amazing style of "Iron Maiden", which combines power and melody. This song is very prominent in the overall landscape of the album which is mostly gloomy, dim, slower, and heavier compared to the band's previous albums. There are almost no fast-paced rhythms here, no tracks close to Speed Metal, and it seems that for the most part the album has been adapted to the minimalist nineties trends whose motto focused on "Les Is More", which is not necessarily bad in this case. Interestingly, the song has an alternative, unofficial music video filmed on the Masada, Israel, which you can find by clicking on the link here : Another reason why the album is darker and gloomier than its predecessors is influenced by Steve Harris ' personal problems and especially by the divorce proceedings he went through at the time. Things are in line with the gloomy cover chosen for the album in which Eddie is inside a torture device. This also explains the fact that the only song in which Harris was not involved at all - " Man on the Edge " is among the upbeat material on the album and is also the song that most closely resembles the band's previous material. It should be remembered that beyond the desire to change the style, regardless of the personal storm Steve Harris went through at the time, the album's slowness and heaviness may have stemmed from the need to adapt the material to Blaze Bayley 's style and sound, or in other words, the songs here have been adapted to Blaze Bayley 's limited vocal range, but we do not see this as a bad thing, quite the opposite. This brought a different and beautiful side of "Iron Maiden" that can't be heard on other albums. The name of the album also matched the band's choice to make a change here. Steve Harris noted that they felt that this album had the extra thing, its unique quality, the "X Factor" so they chose the name "The X Factor", while the number "X" in Roman numerals represents the number 10 - and it was the band's tenth album. And if we are already talking about a different album, then the choice to open up the album with a song like " Janick Gers " is a statement of intent by the band, that just cries out for "change". This is an epic, bombastic and complex musical piece that usually has a place of honor in the last tracks of "Iron Maiden's albums while here, the band chose to open the album with this amazing mini-epic that crosses the 11 minutes. The song is based on the book "The Name of the Rose" which later became the movie "Name Of The Rose" starring Sean Connery and Christian Slater, Which is also why the song opens with a kind of Gregorian chant/singing performed by "The Xpression Choir". It's one of Maiden's most complex, dynamic, melodic, and beautiful songs and we're just addicted to it. No wonder it's one of the few songs from the Blaze Bayley era that the band chose to perform live even after Bruce Dickinson 's return to the band. Similar to the two songs we mentioned above that were influenced by movies, the song " The Edge of Darkness " was also influenced by the 1979 film "Apocalypse Now", (or more accurately by Joseph Conrad's novel "Heart of Darkness" on which the film is based), dealing with the horrors of the Vietnam War and their negative impact on the soldiers who experienced them. This song, too, is very dynamic and opens quietly and slowly, with Steve Harris ' bass chords and slowly increasing the tempo, to a climax that ends with a melodic and sweeping solo battle by Dave Murray and Janick Gers , only to gradually slow down again, until the slow and quiet ending, Just as we started. The song " Lord of the Flies " is also based on the book of the same name by William Golding "Beelzebub", which later became a film. The song written by Janick Gers and Steve Harris is also the second single released from the album, which incorporates segments from the "Man On The Edge" alternative music video, which was filmed in Israel at the "Masada" site, which the band visited during its performances in Israel in 1995. Like the previous single, this song is one of the most rhythmic on the album, mainly led by the guitars. In the fact that four of the album's songs are based on books and/or movies, one can perhaps find similarities between this album and the band's previous albums. Here is the place to note the wonderful combination between the guitars of Janick Gers and Dave Murray on this album, whose formation has been built over the 5 years they have played together, since Gers joined the band, and which has reached perfection on this album. The playing of both is sweeping and flawless. They lift each other and complement each other. Their harmonies are at their peak and the melodies are simply instructive. Listen to the solos in the excellent song " The Aftermath " or the opening of " The Unbeliever ", listen to them in the song " Judgment of Heaven " starting at 2:46, or in the solos starting halfway through the song " 2 AM ". Particularly notable is Janick Gers ' staccato playing, which blends in nicely and adapts itself to the band's updated sound and trends in the metal genre at the time. Gers also excelled here in terms of writing when he co-wrote 6 of the 11 songs on the album, when surprisingly Dave Murray did not contribute. Steve Harris also brings a different color to this album, in terms of playing. Whether it's in songs that open with his arpeggio bass playing, like in the song " Fortunes of War ", and whether it's in the use of the palm-muted strings in the intro to the song " Blood on the World ", or starting at 0:22 in the song " The Unbeliever ". We also really liked his combination with the guitars in the opening song " Look for the Truth " which brought back memories of the song "Remember Tomorrow" from the days of the debut album - "Iron Maiden". 3 more songs were written for the album and stayed on the editing table. " I Live My Way ", " Justice of The Peace " and " Judgment Day ", are all excellent songs released as b-sides and collections released by the band, also on the Japanese version of the album. As we wrote in the opening of this review, we think this album is an excellent one, and we see it as a double gift we received from "Iron Maiden". On the one hand, we were lucky to have a different kind of album in terms of sound and style, quieter, gloomier, and more melodic. On the other hand, without this album, the power of Adrian Smith and Bruce D ickinson's comeback in the early 2000s, would not have been so strong. Just think what would have happened if the band had continued to release mediocre albums with Bruce, it would probably have disappeared from the musical world. So it was actually Blaze Bayley 's entry to the band that would eventually lead to one of the most amazing comebacks in metal. - Jim Root
He is the No, 4 in "Slipknot", his name is Jim Root and he was born on October 2, 1971, so let's get to know the veteran guitarist a bit !! (Photo: David Phillips) 1. His full name is James Donald Root and he was born in Las Vegas. 2. He began his significant activity in music in the early 90s in a trash metal band called "Atomic Opera" which was founded and operated in Iowa. 3. There he met Corey Taylor and joined his band called "Stone Sour" in 1995. At the same time as being in the band he worked side jobs as a waitress and a ticket agent on the bus. 4. The initial band recorded a number of demos and tried to obtain a recording contract and tour dates but without any real success. They went on hiatus until 2000 when they started recording for their debut album. 5. - Accept - Restless and Wild
Editor's Choice... And this time ... the album "Restless and Wild", the fourth studio album by "Accept", released on October 2, 1982. What a crazy album it was and what impact it had on the metal world of the early 1980s. A second before Thrash Metal erupted with "Metallica's" Kill 'Em All , this album featured one of the most headbanging songs we've ever heard. The opening song of the album " Fast as a Shark ", was indeed "fast" in the full sense of the word. The Speed Metal classic that greatly influenced the metal bands of the period and whose double bass sound resonates even 40 years later to this day. Anyone who listens to the song today may not understand all the fuss, but for anyone who grew up at the time, this song was something out of the ordinary in the heavy metal landscape. True, "Motorhead" flashed with "Ace Of Spades" and "Venom" with "Welcome To Hell" a little before, but still the BPM rating in this song just broke the scale at the time, especially when it came after an album like " Breaker " and just left us speechless in the face of the band's radical change. Another thing that contributed to the metallic shock that exploded on our faces, was the intro of the song which included a recording of an old German tune sung by a children's choir (Heidi heido heida heidi heido heido heida heidi heido heida Hahahahahahaha) "Accept" thought the contrast between the delicate children's choir with the scratch of the needle, Udo Dirkschneider 's chilling scream, and the speed and power of the double bass, would intensify the extremes and will even be amusing. But the joke was on the members of "Accept", after it became clear that the recording of the children's choir they used had a completely different connotation, because it was used as a marching song on parades during the Nazi era, a fact that the band was completely unaware of at the time. This album represents Accept in its heyday, and to this day we believe it is the best album, alongside the classics that followed " Balls to the Wall ", and " Metal Heart ". The album features timeless classics of the genre like the theme song - " Restless and Wild " with the galloping rhythm, " Shake Your Heads " with the slow and mesmerizing riff, and " Ahead of the Pack " which reminded us of "Judas Priest", the amazing " Neon Nights " Which opens with the guitar sound that a year later will emerge from Cliff Burton 's bass guitar in the "Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)", " Demon's Night " which later received a cover version of "Cannibal Corpse", " Flash Rockin' Man " whose riff was "borrowed" From " Swords and Tequila " by "Riot" and later will be "borrowed" again by "Iron Maiden" in the song " 2 Minutes To Midnight ", and of course the huge ending track " Princess of the Dawn " which is simply cut abruptly and deliberately and leaves us with a taste of more .. . - Corey Taylor - CMFT
Corey Taylor's debut album titled "CMFT" was released on October 2, 2020, and for those who don't know (like us, when we first heard the song for example) CMFT's meaning is "Corey Mother Fucking Taylor" and he really can't be stopped !! Corey always does what he wants and does not really care what critics think or how it will affect fans, he goes with his truth. He loves music, he loves to create music and he has no limitations or boundaries to any genre of one kind or another. Corey makes music he loves and this is exactly the album in front of you !! Just a few days ago we remembered this when we listened to the song "Hesitate" from Stone Sour's third album , a sticky and moving ballad that seems to have been taken from the soundtrack of a romantic comedy but... we love it !! In this album, as we shared when the first single came out, Corey took materials he wrote throughout his life regardless of style and period and put them all (what went into editing) in one album. 13 songs from different periods, from different and varied styles. "Slipknot" and "Stone Sour" fans, do not expect to get Corey here as you know him. You must have noticed by the first singles that came out. You will connect to one or two songs, but if you will come with an open mind there is a situation where you will love a few more songs. Corey simply gathered a few friends from the past and present with whom he played in different bands or gigs and connected them to a one-man band, for all of them it felt like a collection of friends who meet in a rehearsal room and played together for fun. (Photo: Ashley Osborn) If we try to divide the styles in the album (do not guarantee that it will succeed) then there are a number of quite major categories... There are songs here that sound like Dudu's side, rock classics that are very reminiscent of ZZ Top, Steel Panther, and even a bit of country blues. ‘HWY 666’, ‘Samantha’s Gone’, ‘Black Eyes Blue’ , and more... There are songs here that are based on strong riffs and are more reminiscent of the Stone Sour style, stronger, louder, and faster than the previous category. ‘Meine Lux’, ‘Ballroom Blitz’ ‘Halfway Down’ , and more... There are moving ballads here that express Taylor's softness and pleasantness, they will move and calm you down like 'Silverfish', 'Home' , and more... Here is the first single from the album... In short... you got the idea !! This is a "treat bag" that you get on birthdays and it has various and varied sweets, waffles, chocolates, popsicles, and more... So click play and start enjoying, this is the new Corey and nothing will stop him !! - Neil Young - Freedom
Neil Young's 17th studio album, "Freedom", was released on October 2, 1989. It's Young's comeback album after the hardest decade of his musical career. It is not that Young did not release albums during this decade, but the musical material on those albums was not close in level to his classic albums from the 1970s. With this album, Young makes a restart to his glorious career and returns with his first worthy work since " Rust Never Sleeps " which came out in 1979, exactly a decade before. So, to understand what all the fuss is about and why we call it a comeback album, let's go back to 1981 for a moment. After releasing the album "Re·ac·tor", Young leaves the record company "Reprise" with whom he had been in contract since his first album in 1968. Young signed a new recording contract with "Geffen Records" and the recording contract gives Young a million dollars for the album and complete creative freedom. Fate wanted and Young was preoccupied during this period with caring for his son who was born with cerebral palsy, which greatly influenced his work. Young's first album at "Geffen Records" was "Trans" from 1982. It was an electronic, experimental, and completely bizarre album that was fundamentally different from what Young had released up to that time. Young will later say that he tried to communicate with his son through this experimental music and that he felt that his distorted voice (as was done on the album) would help with that. However, this album created a great deal of tension between Young and the record company. This tension reached its peak when the record company refused to release material that Young had already recorded for his next album, which was to be called "Old Ways" and which had a country-folk-rock style, similar to the " Harvest " album. The record company feared that such an album would not be well received by fans and demanded that Young will produce a rock 'n' roll album. In response, Young entered the studio and quickly wrote and record an entirely new "Rockabilly" - style album which he named "Everybody's Rockin'", released in 1983 and became Young's shortest album with just 25 minutes of music. This was Young's sweet revenge on the record company, which did not remain indifferent and filed a lawsuit against him, alleging that he deliberately released non-commercial albums. Young for his part filed a counterclaim against the record company alleging breach of contract, as he claimed he was given full creative freedom which the record company denied of him. As a result of the legal dispute, Young also began to slow down the release of his albums, until the end of the dispute in a settlement in his favor. In 1988, Young left "Geffen" and returned to "Reprise, which accompanied him throughout the years. A year later he returns to business with "Freedom" which is the subject of our review. Similar to the album " Rust Never Sleeps ", which was released exactly a decade earlier, this album also opens and ends with a different variation of the same song. This time it is Young's ultimate rock anthem and Young's first international hit in a decade - " Keep on Rocking in the Free World ". The version with which the album opens up is an acoustic version of the song which was recorded in a live performance, held in Jones Beach, New York. The album is sealed with the electric and "electrifying" version of the song. It's a political song against the Bush administration, written by Neil Young on the band's tour bus, as he travels between shows. Some of the lyrics really mock Bush's campaign speeches. This song became an anthem in a very short time and in addition, also rode on the wave of the fall of the Berlin wall that took place several months later. By the way, this song was the trigger for the collaboration between Young and the members of "Pearl Jam" on the " Mirror Ball " album, that Young released in 1995. "Pearl Jam" used to perform the song in their live shows. In 1993, during the MTV music awards, Young took the stage with them to perform the song. This collaboration continued in Young's live shows, when he used to bring "Pearl Jam" members on stage during the encores, to perform the song. The connection and mutual admiration between the two artists eventually led to the creation of a joint project as part of the " Mirror Ball " album, released in 1995. Without diminishing the greatness of the immortal " Keep on Rocking in the Free World ", "Freedom" is completely not an album of one song. It is an eclectic collection of songs from different periods and styles, that create an impressive mosaic of sounds and colors, which somehow, despite the differences in style, blend into each other and become one perfect work. There's the " Don't Cry ", " Eldorado " and " On Broadway " released as part of the EP only in Japan and Australia and whose common denominator is a combination of subtle acoustics, with resounding feedback and dirty and grunge chords that jump on you out of nowhere and bite you without warning. There's also " Crime in the City " and " Someday " which were recorded along with Young's previous band, the "Bluenotes" and include a combination of brass instruments with jazz and blues touches. " Crime in the City " is one of Young's favorite songs, there are live versions of this song that last 20 minutes. Complete madness. The chord passages in this masterpiece remind us of "All Along The Watchtower" and something in the tone of the singing and lyrics are both "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan . This song won an amazing and completely grunge version, as part of the masterful live album "Weld", see here: And of course, there is also " Hangin 'on a Limb " and " The Ways of Love ", Young's two wonderful duets with Linda Ronstadt that are reminiscent of the country-folk-rock we know from " Harvest ". The first of the two is hardly played by Young in performances and here is a rare version of it: It seems that after a decade of musical "drought" Young has lost a bit of confidence so he has scattered in different musical directions, as he gathers the best he has to give from the different periods in his extensive career. Despite the diversity, this is an excellent album, which undoubtedly brought him back to the center of the stage and proved his relevance, especially in the eyes of the grunge bands that are emerging in the northwestern United States. Young's dominance and influence over those bands will only intensify, especially with the release of the double album "Weld" two years later, in a way that would justify his nickname as the godfather of grunge.
