The Wiz: Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - Carnage!
The long-running partnership between our prince of pain, Nick Cave, and the devastatingly gifted violinist Warren Ellis has delivered eight new tracks today, gathered together as "Carnage"!
There are plenty of references to the past year, isolation and the pandemic in Cave's words and his always breathtaking storytelling. Ellis has ample room for chilling arrangements, electronics, loops and curtains of sound so thick they feel almost tangible.
As on Cave's recent albums, which Ellis also helped shape, slow tempos and emotional intensity dominate most of these brief 40 minutes. Yet there is still plenty of tension, gooseflesh and beauty, in the finest Cave tradition.
