- Muse - Won’t Stand Down
Friday Release # 127 What have we just heard? A new single from one of our favorite bands "Muse" and it includes touches of "Metal" ? True the verses are still flirting with the synth-pop the band has sucked into its DNA in the last decade, but the riff leading to the chorus certainly feels to us like the beginning of "back to roots" or in other words "Muse" we haven’t heard since “Black Holes and Revelations”. This is the band's first single in 4 years and it is the first from an upcoming album which details about it's release haven't been published yet. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Bellamy noted that he took advantage of the covid-19 lockdowns to write and release his solo album "Cryosleep", but also to write new songs for Muse's next album. - Eric Clapton - Heart of a Child
Friday Release # 126 Eric Clapton's Christmas present for his fans in the form of a new single co-written with Italian film producer Robin Monotti. The song brings us Clapton in his acoustic version accompanied by a significant number of musicians, singers and arrangers: Sonny Emory (drums), Nathan East (bass), Dirk Powell (mandolin), Daniel Santiago (guitar), Pedro Martins (guitar), Simon Climie (Keyboards, percussion), Saron White (background vocals), Katie Kissoon (background vocals), Nick Ingman (string arranger, conductor) and Everton Nelson (string Leader). Clapton and Monotti found a common ground as Covid-19 governments policy. Monotti is a declared Vaccine Skeptic who earlier this year published Clapton's letter regarding the side effects of the AstraZenaca vaccine. Clapton himself has not spared words against government policies dealing with Covid-19, in the past year. He has released songs on the subject, he himself or in collaboration with Van Morrison in which he criticizes UK lockdown policy. Although Clapton insists he does not oppose vaccines, he refused to appear in halls that required proof of vaccination. Although the song does not directly address vaccines and covid-19, such an atmosphere hovers over it's lyrics, with words like: "They locked you down boy, Made you grieve alone For Listening: Spotify, Apple Music Follow us on Facebook or Subscribe to the website "Face/Off" - Israel's Rock Blog & Radio show, Sundays at 11:00
- Evanescence - Across the Universe
Friday Release # 125 And this time "Evanescence" with their cover version of "Across The Universe" by "The Beatles". The track, which was previously covered by Amy Lee and her bandmates on the tour to promote the album "Synthesis" in 2018, was also released on the second disc of the Limited Edition version of "The Bitter Truth", the bands latest album which includes the virtual performance "A Live Session From Rock Falcon Studio", performed during the Covid-19 lockdowns. This song is available today as a standalone single through all digital music service providers. Upon its release, "The Bitter Truth" reached number 4 in the UK, making it the band's fourth "Top Five" album in the United Kingdom. It was the band's first full-length album, with brand new material in a decade and was voted, among other things, the best-selling alternative rock album in the United States, according to "Nielsen Music Connect". We have generally been very critical of cover versions, especially when it comes to a masterpiece as in this case. At the same time, something in this cover version caught us and without making comparisons with the original and sacred version, we can say that this cover by "Evanescence" is simply magic. - Korn - Start The Healing
New headbanger from the house of Korn !! The new and 14th album of this mystical creator called Korn is due out on February 4th and bears the name "Requiem". The band released the first single from the album, "Start The Healing", a single that proves that the band manages to hold its power and relevance at a very high level and even though it has quite a few albums under it, it manages to excite !! As in our recent reviews on latest new albums, here too the COVID has given its capabilities to the band. This album was created in a work environment and atmosphere completely different from anything the band has experienced and done in the past. Absolute freedom without schedules, without pressure from the record company, without pressure from external factors and without a goal or purpose other than one, to create music !! The COVID period (which is not over yet) was also not that simple for the veteran band that went on a tour after the previous album and encountered great challenges and difficulties. Half of the band members were tested for corona virus, Jonathan Davis, Munky and Ray Luzier caught the virus but passed it safely. The challenges followed the writing and recordings but also made the band members understand that there is nowhere to run... - Avril Lavigne - Bite Me
The punk-rock girl returns to the style that characterized the beginning of her career with the new single "Bite Me". Apparently Travis Barker's relationship with one of the Kardashian (don't ask us which one) is good for him because the guy keeps creating and developing creatively and business. In addition to his most notable collaboration with Machine Gun Kelly, he founded a record company called DTA and began producing, writing and creating with many different artists from the world of pop, rock and hip-hop. Travis and Avril have known each other since 15 years ago when they worked together on the recordings for her third album "The Best Damn Thing" which was released in 2007. The two joined two reinforcement players in the form of producer and writer John Feldmann and rapper Mod Sun and worked together on the next and seventh Avril's album. Avril who signed on Travis' label and feels it is her new home said the song is an anthem to all those who know what they are worth and what they deserve and do not let other people step on them. - Slipknot - The Chapeltown Rag
The group of lunatics drops a new single by surprise, a song that feels like it creates in the flames of hell, Slipknot's regular music source. For those who have been following the band members on social media, especially Corey Taylor has already received hints that Slipknot has been working on the next album for some time. Apparently this song is the first single from the album that is supposed to fall on us like a bomb and we hope it will be soon. The song which of course is built from the band's DNA (do not think otherwise) and comes out two years after the last album "We Are Not Your Kind" speaks or rather roars about everything that happens with us and the media in the world. About how we are addicted to social media, social networks, knowing what's going on, peeking into the lives of others or showing off our lives. For how fake this thing is, dangerous and manipulative and when it encounters traditional media it creates immense damage. We very much hope that the album will be out soon, we are missing something crazy to unload some aggression... - Porcupine Tree - Harridan
A new song for "Porcupine Tree", the first in 12 years !! Released in close proximity to Steven Wilson's birthday today !!! After completing a tour supporting the album "The Incident" in 2010, "Porcupine Tree" went on an indefinite hiatus and since then Steven Wilson has focused on his solo career as the rest of the band began working on other projects. In the years since Wilson has repeatedly stated that he is not expecting when the band will return to work together. In 2018 he looted a possible comeback. However, in January of this year Wilson has already stated that the band will probably do something one day, only he does not know when, so the new single holds us in complete surprise. The single called "Harridan" is the first from a new album called "Closure / Continuation" which is due out on June 24, 2022. It will be the band's first album since "The Incident" from 2009. The song is a little over eight minutes long and includes everything we already knew from this amazing band. Strong dynamics, rhythm changes, strong riffs combined with quiet and melodic sections and this time also funky bass that sits on tribal rhythms. The new song and other songs from the album were played by the band shortly after the release of The Incident. Wilson says that at first they were kept on a hard drive in a computer file that grew slowly and was marked PT2012, then renamed to PT2015 and later to PT2018 and so on. He added that there were times that even the band forgot they were there. It should be noted that the recordings for the album ended in September 2021. The band's lineup dropped to three: Steven Wilson, Richard Barbieri and Gavin Harrison, with Colin Edwin not joining the reunion and Steven Wilson also playing bass in his place.
